How do we deal with detransition?

There is nothing wrong with detransition, and if someone decides they want to pursue a new direction in their gender journey we should support them.

However, around ninety-five percent of the reasons listed for ‘detransition’ in fact have nothing to do with transition, and are due to issues beyond the control of the person transitioning. Instead, they are caused by factors like harassment, lack of acceptance, and problems at home or in the workplace.

This means that we can support people to continue with the transition that is right for them by improving support and acceptance of transgender people in general. All interventions have both risks and benefits, but it is widely accepted that the benefits of gender-affirming care greatly outweigh the risks.
