Is there anything I can do to ensure I get the best results from a home kit?

Tests must be carried out in the morning and posted back the same day. Follow the instructions given in the pack as closely as you can. The following tips may also be useful:

  • When you get to step two try bathing your hand in some warm water before pricking your finger, to encourage the blood to flow into the fingertips.
  • You can also take a warm shower or do some gentle exercise beforehand to encourage a good blood flow, as well as making sure you are well hydrated.
  • Let gravity help by standing up to take your sample. If the blood flow stops, wipe the area with a clean tissue. If it still does not flow use a spare lancet and prick another finger.

Prepare everything before you start. Fill all the tubes you receive - you may have up to three tubes in your pack. Return all tubes together with your form - without the form the kit will be rejected. It is important to label the bottle exactly as the form is filled out - if the names do not match the sample will be rejected.
